Anantnag Police Intensifies Anti-Drug Drive; Illegal Poppy Cultivation Destroyed in Dooru
Anantnag, April 22: In a major crackdown aimed at eradicating the drug menace from the valley, the Anantnag Police on Wednesday carried out a massive destruction drive against illegal poppy cultivation in various parts of the Dooru area.
According to official reports reaching Great X Kashmir, police parties from the Dooru Police Station, accompanied by Executive Magistrates and officials from the Revenue and Agriculture departments, identified and destroyed multiple patches of illegally grown poppy.
Details of the Police Action
The operation was part of a sustained campaign to safeguard the youth and society from the devastating impact of narcotics. The specific actions taken by the authorities include:
Mirgund Operation: During routine patrolling, a police team discovered illegal poppy cultivation in an orchard. The crop was destroyed on the spot, and an FIR (No. 53/2026) under the NDPS Act has been registered. Investigation has been taken up by the authorities.
Jaibal Shankerpora Raid: In a joint operation with revenue officials, standing green poppy was destroyed on land in the Jaibal Shankerpora area. Following the destruction, FIR No. 54/2026 was lodged against the involved individual.
Zaldoora Crackdown: Another instance of illegal cultivation was neutralized in Zaldoora. The destruction took place in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and an officer from the Agriculture Department, leading to the registration of FIR No. 56/2026.
Commitment to a Drug-Free Society
A spokesperson for the Anantnag Police reiterated that these actions reflect the department’s firm resolve to eliminate illegal drug production at its source. The police have initiated formal investigations into all cases to track further links.
Great X Kashmir has learned that the authorities are urging citizens to cooperate with the administration. “The community plays a vital role in identifying such illegal activities. Together, we can protect our future generations from the grip of narcotics,” a senior official stated.
The police have warned that strict legal action will continue against anyone found involved in the cultivation, trade, or transport of banned substances under the NDPS Act.
