Early Morning Tremors: Doda Region Hit by Two Back-to-Back Earthquakes

The quiet early hours in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir were interrupted today as two earthquakes were recorded in quick succession. The seismic activity caused many residents to wake up in alarm, though the situation remained under control as the morning progressed.
The first tremor, which was the more intense of the two, occurred at exactly 04:22 AM (IST). This earthquake was measured at 4.6 on the Richter scale. According to seismologists, the quake originated at a depth of 10 kilometers. Due to its intensity, the vibrations were felt clearly across the Chenab Valley, prompting people to stay alert.
A second, relatively milder earthquake was felt just 15 minutes later at 04:37 AM (IST). This aftershock had a magnitude of 3.0 and, like the first one, was located at a depth of 10 kilometers. While the second tremor was less severe, it added to the anxiety of the local population during the early morning hours.
Local authorities have reported that there is no immediate evidence of any major damage to infrastructure or loss of life. The district administration is closely watching the situation, especially in hilly areas where the impact is usually felt more strongly.
As Jammu and Kashmir is situated in a high-seismic activity zone, it is crucial for citizens to follow safety protocols. Residents are advised to stay away from weak structures, move to open areas if tremors occur again, and rely only on official government reports regarding earthquake updates.
The situation in Doda is currently stable. While today’s tremors did not cause any disaster, they serve as a reminder of the region’s geological vulnerability. Residents are advised to remain calm but vigilant and keep emergency contact numbers handy.
