Kashmir Weather Update: Dry Spell to Continue Till April 15; Light Rain Expected Mid-Week

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Meteorological Department has predicted that the prevailing dry weather conditions across the valley are likely to continue until April 15. While the sun offers a much-needed window for outdoor activities, a brief change in the weather pattern is expected to hit the region shortly after.

Weather Forecast: April 13 to April 17
According to the latest advisory, the Union Territory will experience stable and mostly dry weather for the next three days. This period is seen as a golden opportunity for the local community to carry out routine chores and administrative tasks without any rain-related interruptions.

However, the outlook changes from April 16. A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to trigger light rain and occasional thunderstorms across various parts of Kashmir. This wet spell is expected to be brief, primarily affecting the region during the afternoon and evening hours of April 16 and 17. By April 18, conditions are predicted to stabilize once again.

Impact on Agriculture and Orchard Management
For the farming community of Kashmir, this dry patch is crucial. Authorities have advised farmers to speed up their field operations, including:
Spraying in Orchards: Completion of chemical sprays in apple and walnut orchards before the April 16 rain.
Sowing Activities: Safe period for sowing seasonal crops.
Drainage: Ensuring proper drainage in fields to avoid waterlogging during the brief wet spell.

Travel Advisory for Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH44)
While the weather remains clear for now, commuters traveling on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH44) are advised to stay alert. Rainfall in the hilly terrains, particularly around Ramban and Banihal, can lead to minor shooting stones or slippery road conditions.

“Public safety is a priority. We suggest travelers verify the road status from the Traffic Control Units (TCU) before starting their journey, especially during the predicted rain on Wednesday and Thursday,” noted a local expert.
The Road Ahead
Post-April 17, the weather is expected to clear up significantly, with another dry spell predicted from April 18 to April 22. This will allow life to return to its normal pace across the Union Territory.
