Anantnag Police Takes Strict Action: SPO Involved in Drug Trafficking Case Disengaged
Anantnag | April 17, 2026 – In a significant move to uphold the internal discipline and integrity of the Jammu & Kashmir Police, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag has ordered the immediate disengagement of a Special Police Officer (SPO) following his alleged involvement in a narcotics-related case.
The Details of the Case
The dismissed official has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf Malik, son of Mohammad Ramzan Malik, a resident of the Kuchal area in Kishtwar district. According to official sources, the action was taken after the SPO’s name surfaced in a serious criminal investigation involving the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The individual was found to be linked to FIR No. 57/2023, which was registered at the Police Station Devsar. The case includes charges under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act, which specifically deal with the possession and trafficking of prohibited substances.
Departmental Action and Accountability
Following the registration of the FIR and a preliminary assessment of the gravity of the charges, the Anantnag Police department initiated a formal review of his service. Taking a serious view of the breach of conduct, the SSP Anantnag finalized the decision to disengage him from his duties, effective immediately.
This move is seen as a strong message to the entire force that any association with illegal activities, especially the drug trade, will face the harshest consequences.
Zero Tolerance Against Misconduct
A spokesperson for the Anantnag Police reiterated that the department maintains a “Zero-Tolerance Policy” regarding any form of unlawful activity or professional misconduct by its personnel.
“Our department remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the rule of law. Every member of the force is expected to serve with honesty, and accountability will be ensured at all levels, regardless of rank or position,” the official statement emphasized.
Commitment to a Drug-Free Society
This action comes at a time when the J&K Police has intensified its “War on Drugs” across the valley. By purging its own ranks of individuals involved in such crimes, the department aims to strengthen public trust and ensure that the fight against the drug menace remains credible and effective.
